Learning how to make a fermented spider eye was one of my favorite Halloween projects for many years. The texture and the spittle of this black fungus were very disturbing to my family as a child, but I loved the fact that it was edible! Needless to say, when I was older I made them again for my friends, and I still have trouble getting rid of them. They are creepy-looking, yes, but the taste is pretty good once you get used to it. You can make these potions all year long if you like, or you can also make them differently and use other ingredients.
To make a fermented spider eye – you will need: uncooked brown mushrooms, uncooked rice, uncooked chicken broth, sugar, sea salt, green chilies (red, green, orange or yellow), cumin, coriander seeds, mustard seeds, cloves, and garlic. Bring the water to a boil and add the brown mushrooms. Cover the mushrooms tightly with the uncooked rice and keep aside while the broth boils. Once the broth has finished boiling, drain off the excess water and mix in the sugar.
Add the chicken broth to the uncooked rice and let it simmer for about 15 minutes – When it is done, take it off and cut it into small pieces. Then, break the pieces into small pieces. After the pieces are well-blotted with dirt, place the pieces into the blender along with the rest of the ingredients and blend until they are blended. This mixture can be used in several ways, depending on what you plan on making it for.
How to make a fermented spider eye – is not the only way to create spooky and spry Halloween potions. You can also make these potions and serve them at your next Halloween party. Create a Slorgasbord Potion by combining two teaspoons of dried sage, one tablespoon of dried Rosemary, and half a teaspoon of dried thyme. Heat the liquid to about a boil before adding it to the food or drink. Stir to combine and then strain into cups. It will then be ready to serve!
Another great idea – on how to make a fermented spider eyes is using the powerful and potent juice of a Dead Eye tree. To create this potion, you will need a cup of coconut milk, five medium cloves of garlic, three tablespoons of dried thyme, and three bay leaves. Combine all of these ingredients together in a mesh tea ball and then add it to a cup of water. All of the ingredients should be covered with a lid except for the garlic clove which should remain open. Then, boil the coconut milk and bring to a boil and then add the contents of the mesh tea ball and cover for five minutes.
One last way to create these potions – is to use the leftover pulp from the making of a fermented spider eye. The pulp is extracted after a process of pressing and draining. This leftover pulp is an excellent base for many different types of potions. For example, if you use the pulp to make a Slorgasbord Potion, you can then brew a potion that makes for perfect stealthiness while traveling to a Halloween party.
It also works well when mixed with apple cider vinegar and honey for the perfect sweetener and thirst quenching effect.
