Baseball is a hard hitting ball-and-bat game played between competing teams that take turns catching and batting. When a team plays this sport, the game usually lasts until one team scores more points than the other team. These points are given out by a win or loss, and sometimes overtime if tied. The game also may be played by using a baseball diamond, which is an area where the different baseball teams play to attempt to score runs by hitting balls into the designated holes on the field. The game is not much different from tennis; the rules for the game are almost the same except for the jersey of the players. There are fourteen positions on the diamond, and the position in which the ball first lands is called first base.
Second base is the third base: that a player must touch home plate before he can run to home plate. Third base is the spot that the ball player must touch home plate before he can move to home plate. Fourth base is the spot that the player who just hit a home run should run to. Fifth base is the spot a runner who is tagging a base hit should run to.
The home plate boundaries are marked by white lines on the field: The first base, third base, and second base lines are the vertical lines, while the foul line is black. The outer edges of the foul lines are two feet, nine inches apart. The lines start at home plate, moving toward the dugout, and they extend to the first base, third base, and second base line. The foul line extends three feet, nine inches from the base of the first base line.
Baseball is played with two different kinds of bats: the common open face baseball bat, and the closed face baseball bat. The open face baseball bat is called a softball for this reason. It has a “short” finger which allows the player to grip the bat tightly, thus preventing the ball from being struck out, or thrown too hard. The closed face baseball bat has a long finger, and a more flexible “open” grip. This allows the player to have a greater range of motion and allow the ball to be thrown farther, but it also causes the ball to be hit harder, so the batter does not have a glove to protect his wrist from being hit too hard.
Fielder position players are the ones who play in front of home plate: and they stand at the opposite end of the diamond from the ball field. They have been given nicknames such as “polacko,” “porker,” or “quarterback.” The role of a fielding player is crucial in a baseball game. He is the one who plays the role of a base or a pitcher, depending upon the call of the game. Some players play all positions, while others only play certain positions.
One position that is almost exclusively held by men is second base: Second basers can either field a hit or throw a pitch, depending on what the coach or manager thinks will work best for the team. The American League and the National League each have their own system when it comes to second base. In the American League, the player who fields the hit or throws the ball is not allowed to move from his position at the second base to any other position in the outfield, unless the ball is foul or there is an obvious situation at second base.
On the other hand, if a runner is on second base and he is forced out at first base, he can move to the outfield, but only while the ball is in play.
